  • Waking up repeatedly throughout the night.

  • Thinking about your lack of sleep each and every day when you’d rather think about something else.

  • Watching the clock at odd hours of the night.

  • Worrying about whether you’ll get “enough” sleep each night.

Maybe you’re struggling with…

You’re desperate for better sleep. Quality sleep is within reach through therapy.

We want you to know that you can retrain your body to sleep better again through Cognitive Behavior Therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). CBT-I is research backed and is the first-line treatment for insomnia (aka recommended above the use of sleep medications!), according to professional sleep organizations, like the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. This treatment has helped thousands get quality sleep again and can help you too.

Here’s how treatment works.

Therapy can help break insomnia and retrain your body to sleep through the night and feel refreshed again.

CBT-I is designed to improve sleep patterns, and as a result, improve daytime functioning. It addresses thoughts and behaviors that may be contributing to poor sleep patterns. Main elements of CBT-I include sleep restriction and stimulus control. Sleep restriction teaches you to get longer and more consolidated sleep. Research has shown that consolidated sleep is the most important factor for feeling well rested. Whereas stimulus control retrains your brain to associate your bed with sleepiness rather than alertness making it easier to fall asleep.

Additional skills include mindfulness and relaxation techniques, and skills designed to challenge negative thoughts that might be interfering with your ability to fall or stay asleep. Through this treatment, clients can experience restful sleep again and find freedom from the frustrations caused by insomnia.

What we will work on:

Imagine yourself…

  • Falling asleep when you get into bed rather than being wide awake.

  • Waking up in the morning feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

  • Sleeping through the night and forgetting what its like to be awake when no one else is.

  • Finding lasting relief from all the frustrations of long-term poor sleep.

  • Having energy to invest in yourself, work, or relationships again.

  • Not feeling anxious about what amount of sleep you’ll (not) be getting each night.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

  • With your commitment to implementing the treatment skills daily, noticeable changes commonly occur within the first month. CBT-I treatment duration can range between 7 to 10 weekly sessions, depending on your specific needs.

  • As with most medications, they only work as long as you continue to take them. CBT-I works by retraining your body to sleep better which produces durable changes. Many people prefer to find effective, non-medication, solutions for their insomnia. CBT-I is the front-line behavioral solution. We do not require any medication changes prior to starting treatment.

  • The amount of sleep you need is unique. Treatment can help you discover the right amount for your body. Research on the outcomes of CBT-I treatment shows that people fall asleep quicker, stay asleep, and get more total sleep. These are the results we see in therapy too and why we love this treatment!
